What is STAR?
Remember - Be prepared, be honest, ask thoughtful questions, and ask about the next
step in the selection process !
If you have additional questions regarding behavioral interviewing or answering behavioral
questions, ask your recruiter.
Keep in mind ”STAR”. In behavioral interviews the interviewer is looking for a specific
format to your answers. You should practice and be prepared these details in your
answers.
- S - Specific - be very specific, but concise in your answers, don’t be vague or talk
in theoretical situations
- T - Task/Situation - describe one specific scenario and the important details that
you took into consideration prior to taking action
- A - Actions “you” took - share concise details of actions that you took, don’t use
“we”
- R - Result(s) - the bottom-line, result(s) of your actions/efforts
Keys to Interviewing Successfully
Having a successful interview starts with being prepared. There are several techniques
used by interviewers in an effort to determine, if the interviewee has the skills
the interviewer believes are needed for success in the role.
Behavioral interviewing is just one of these techniques.
Behavioral interviewing focuses on recent, real-life experiences and/or scenarios
to try predict future actions/behaviors.
